chicago city guide: part 1 – breakfast & brunch.

I often get asked for recommendations of things to do, eat, and see in Chicago. I have accumulated quite the list over the years and when I thought about posting the full list on my blog at one time, it felt a bit overwhelming.

I am going to break the list into categories and share my (hard to narrow down) top recommendations by category over the next few weeks, starting with the most important meal of the day — breakfast (and brunch).

If there are specific Chicago topics that you’re interested in, let me know. Future posts will include other important meals of the day, snacks, drinks, shopping, museums, etc.

Breakfast / Brunch:

  • The Bongo Room – Insider tip: Unless you REALLY like sweets, get a sweet pancake to share with the table (they do many of them individually) and order something savory for your main meal – portions are huge
  • Glazed and Infused
  • Doughnut Vault – Insider tip: Get there early – they only sell donuts until they run out
  • Café Selmarie
  • M Henry – Insider tip: there is a great nail salon across the street
  • Bad Wolf Coffee – Insider tip: visit on Saturday just before 10AM to get a canele – they run out quickly
  • Big Jones

  1. Definitely love Bongo Room! Kanela Breakfast Club is one of my top brunch spots as well as Batter & Berries — insider tip get the french toast flight to share as a starter with the table
