Nuby Parent Blogger: Nighttime Routine

We have followed the same nighttime routine with Simon since he was teeny tiny. I’m convinced it’s part of the reason why we have a really great sleeper and hence, even when traveling or tight on time, the routine stays. The routine is basically:

  • Bath (or wash face)
  • Dry hair (if bath)
  • Brush teeth (while singing our ABCs :))
  • PJs
  • 2 books
  • 2 songs
  • Sleep

When I was offered the opportunity to review a few Nuby products that we could add to our established routine it was a no-brainer.

Nuby Bath Crayons

Simon has had the same toys in the tub for a pretty long time and now that he’s a bit older I thought that the Nuby Bath Crayons would be a perfect addition. Read More

Dear Simon,

You are growing like a weed! I swear that this month, out of nowhere, you shot up and your 18-24 month clothes are too short in the arms and starting to look like high waters in the legs. It’s a look… but maybe not one that we should continue in the middle of winter.

We had some big changes this month – mainly moving from a nanny to daycare (we call it school because it sounds more exciting). You did great! I was surprised at how resilient you were – you walked into the classroom full of new things and you were immediately excited about all of the toys and books. You barely turned around to say goodbye and thankfully didn’t notice that I was teary. Read More

Adventures in Daycare – Day 1

Today was Simon’s first day of daycare.

Well wait, let’s back up for a second.

We have had a nanny watching Simon since he was 4 months old. It was always Simon, my niece and the nanny (2 different ones). That seemed like a solid plan for a really long time, but as Simon got older and we moved and M moved and there was a new baby in the mix (my nephew), it made sense that we consider alternative plans for S.

Daycare was appealing over getting our own nanny because I don’t want S to grow up to be a jerk and it seemed like a good way to teach him at a young age that he has to share, be nice, and follow directions. Read More

Dear Simon,

What a month! This month, even in the last few days, you have grown in many ways. Your vocabulary is growing rapidly and your ability to repeat words is getting stronger – it’s pretty amazing.

You’ve started to connect a few words together and you have a few new phrases like, “uh oh”. Pretty cute, especially with the corresponding hands. The other day you also repeated your first bad word. Oops, time to be REALLY careful what we say around you.

I think my favorite development this month is that you consistently sing a couple of songs with me. When you know the chorus you sing it with me – mainly if it consists of doo doo doos. This makes my music loving heart VERY happy. Read More

Dear Simon,

This month was awesome  – mainly because you’re awesome, but also because Dad and I were both able to take 2 weeks off over the holidays and spend that time with you. We did all sorts of things that we’ve been wanting to do — the Exploratorium (water table!!), Gather, free swim at the YMCA… we had so much fun with you.

You are getting so big, buddy. It’s unbelievable how much changes month to month. You REALLY want to be independent, especially at mealtime. You also despise hearing someone tell you no, especially when it involves throwing toys. These situations often result in tears, unfortunately. Luckily these tears are short lived and you are easily distracted, but we’re having to say “please tell ___ you’re sorry” quite a bit these days. You get so upset when we get upset with you about something – it’s heartbreaking. Read More
