whirlwind weekend.

We had a whirlwind weekend that went by WAY too quickly. Wasn’t it just Friday?! All weekend I was distracted by stuff and accomplished almost nothing on my to-do list.

In my defense, my in-laws were in town which made tackling the to-do list second on my list at all times. Yes, I have a to-do list for my to-do list. 🙂

I think that I mentioned last week that Simon learned to roll from back to tummy, but that he couldn’t roll back.

Yesterday he learned to roll from tummy to back, which is awesome!

He was easily rolling onto his stomach, but as soon as he decided he was uncomfortable he would start screaming. This was, of course, happening between the hours of 2AM and 4AM. Now that he can roll both directions (still with some serious moans) I am hoping that he won’t be waking in a panic when he finds himself on his belly (even though HE puts himself there!).

Every time he rolls either direction in front of me or J he looks at us like, “umm, people, did you just SEE that?”… He has a mixed expression of complete horror and complete joy. I don’t think he’s decided about this rolling around thing yet.

On a complete whim we went and looked at this house. We currently live in a duplex condo, but within the next 2ish years we would like to be in a single family home – still in the Chicago area.

J likes to look at real estate online and occasionally we see something in the neighborhood that we want to live in, in a price range that we can manage, that we really want to take a closer look at.

Houses like this go very quickly around here.

This house has stunning curb appeal and we were this close to putting in an offer, but at the end of the day we decided that it wasn’t enough of what we wanted for the price. The house is amazing, but when we really talked through it room by room, J and I each had nit-picks that we didn’t think we could look past. Given that it’s a gut rehab we didn’t think that some of those “issues” should exist.

I know that they pulled in multiple offers this weekend – it went on the market Friday night. Seriously.

I’ll probably dream about the exterior of the house for a long time (that porch!), but the interior just wasn’t for us. That said, we managed to spend MANY hours talking about the house and crunching numbers this weekend.

I guess the good news is that we are closer to understanding what we want out of our forever home. I have some weird non-negotiables like a white kitchen and a mud room.

I mean…hello gorgeous…I would DEFINITELY do laundry in here.

And this one… too pretty for mud…

I could go on and on… I’ll spare you. Houzz is my frenemy ;).

This is your reminder that the Miss Monogram giveaway for a monogrammed burp cloth and bib ends tomorrow, September 23.

Look at how cute this towel is that I ordered from Miss Monogram. You need one!

  1. MARA – I totally scroll through first and thought that you had bought that house. My word. That is a dream home. Exciting still!!

Isla woke me up SCREAMING around 3am on Friday night because she was on her tummy too!!!! So odd. She can go back and forth during the day, but apparently did not want to roll backwards at night. We have twins.

Also, on a side note – you look GORGEOUS in your new sidebar profile photo!

    • That house is gorgeous on the outside, but the inside just didn’t feel like it fit us 100%. We were REAL close to an offer though.

      Simon and Isla are twins!

That picture is a little old, but thank you 🙂

  2. Mara, we have similar taste! I love that laundry room and entry way for kids stuff and adult things. Seriously, love it. I love the outside of that home, but I understand what you mean when it just doesn’t feel right on the inside. We are in the process of selling our current home and aren’t finding anything in the area we want to be. It is so hard, but I know it is worth it to be patient.

P.S. Tummy rolling is so cute!!

    • I could spend HOURS on Houzz 🙂
We aren’t in too much of a rush to find a house, we have a couple of years and then it becomes really important because of school.
Hope you’re having a good day!
